Improve Your Leadership: Move from Feedback to Forward Thinking
Improve Your Leadership: Move from Feedback to Forward Thinking
One thing that never changes in the constantly changing field of leadership awareness and human abilities is the desire for improvement and growth. Today, I want to introduce you to a potent idea called "From Feedback to Feedforward," which has completely changed my leadership development.
While helpful, feedback frequently focuses on past performance. It’s similar to continually scanning your rearview mirror while driving.
Personal Experience: Early in my work, I received critical criticism emphasizing areas for growth. It was necessary for self-awareness, yet it left me feeling stuck in the past. When a mentor urged me to visualize and work towards my ideal leadership self, I realized the power of feedforward. This transformation in viewpoint was life changing. And I began to practice the growth-oriented practice of Feedforward as well.
Key Takeaways:
1. Encourage your staff to develop future-oriented goals rather than concentrating on previous mistakes. Provide them with the resources and assistance they need to attain their goals.
2. Strengths-Based Leadership: Recognise and develop the strengths of your team. Assist them in maximizing their abilities to achieve remarkable achievements.
3. Encourage Open Dialogue: Create an environment where open communication thrives. Encourage team members to discuss their ideas and goals to foster a more collaborative and inventive environment.
4. Continuous Learning: Adopt a continuous learning mindset. Adaptability and a thirst for education are vital in our rapidly changing world.
5. Use Feedback as a Tool: Don’t ignore feedback; use it to improve. But keep in mind that it is only one element of the puzzle.
